Baahubali to release in Dolby Atmos

After having fortified its presence in the Bollywood industry, Dolby Laboratories is also taking its sound expertise to the vast South Indian movie industry. The latest in it is the release of Baahubali, a Telugu movie that will be released in Dolby Atmos, providing sound quality that will enable audiences to feel as if they are in the movie.

Baahubali is produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni of Arka Mediaworks and is directed by SS Rajamouli, an award-winning screenplay writer and director who is best known for the films Magadheera and Eega/Makhi.

Baahubali is his next high-budget featuring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah in the lead roles. Apart from them, the film features an ensemble cast of Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, Nassar, Adivi Sesh, Tanikella Bharani and Sudeep in crucial roles.

The film’s soundtrack has been designed by PM Satheesh in Dolby Atmos format, with music composed by MM Keeravani. The film has been mixed by Debajit Changmai at FutureWorks.

On the usage of Dolby, Satheesh said, “Using Dolby Atmos for Baahubali has been a captivating experience. I believe that Dolby Atmos is the most powerful sound technology we have ever used, giving us the freedom to place and move sounds anywhere around and above the audiences. The massive scale on which the film is shot with the enormous amount of VFX combined with the sound design and mix in Dolby Atmos will make audiences feel as if they are in the middle of the onscreen action. Audiences will be able to distinguish each and every clink of a soldier’s weapon among thousands. In the war scenes, one can actually feel as if they are flying with the fireballs thrown into the air by the medieval war machines and landing on the enemy’s battlefield thanks to the Dolby Atmos soundtrack.”

“We are very excited with the response Dolby Atmos has received in India, including from directors and sound engineers. We believe that Baahubali will be an extraordinary experience with Dolby Atmos. With Atmos, the audiences are no longer watching a movie but experiencing it,” said Dolby Laboratories senior regional director India, SEA and ANZ Pankaj Kedia.
